About
Katrina A. Calhoun (she/her) is an Assistant Professor of Higher Education. She is a passionate researcher, educator, and speaker whose research focuses on the intersections of Black motherhood, faith, and student success. Specifically, her research examines the systemic barriers that impact Black mothers’ pursuit, retention, and completion of graduate programs, and how they utilize faith to navigate these barriers. She is also a co-investigator for the Loving Blackness Project which employs critical testimonies and photovoice to interrogate how Black students understand and practice self-love within higher education and beyond. She is also a researcher with the Pedagogy of Student Success Project (TPSSP). TPSSP is a 10-year longitudinal study that examines the progression of student success for marginalized students using anti-deficit based frameworks. Her research has resulted in peer-reviewed presentations at the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) and the American College Personnel Association (ACPA).
