The purpose of this course is to provide a learning community for all students to discuss the value of, importance in, and skills to contribute to positive social change as a student leader in the residence halls at UMass Amherst.
This course is required of all students interested in applying for the Resident Assistant (RA) and Peer Mentor (PM) position. To meet eligibility requirements for the RA or PM positions, candidates must successfully Pass this course prior to the start of their employment duties and dates.
RA/PM applications for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 are already closed. This course is restricted to students interested in applying for the RA/PM position for the 2025-2026 academic year who are unable to take this course during the Spring 2025 semester.
The class is seven weeks long and meets once a week for two hours. Residential Life is offering two sections this Fall 2024 semester (Tuesday 4pm-6pm or Wednesday 4pm-6pm). The class will begin the week of October 14, 2024 and run through the week of December 2, 2024.

Priority will be given to students who are unable to take the course during the Spring (i.e. planning to study abroad, having too heavy a course load in the Spring), but we are open to other students if space is available.
