Introductory vocabulary and definitions, descriptions of the dynamics of oppression at the individual, institutional, and cultural levels. Focus on developing personal awareness of social group memberships in relationship to two specific forms of oppression. Introduction to selected literature on two specific forms of oppression.

Notes
Open to Graduate students only. Class meets on Friday, September 13th and Friday December 6th, both days 9am-5pm. In addition, students will choose two weekend seminars out of five to attend.

Weekend 3- October 19th & 20th - 9am-5pm (proposed topic: Racism)
Weekend 4- November 2nd & 3rd- 9am-5pm (proposed topic: Trans Oppression)
Weekend 5- November 16th & 17th - 9am-5pm (proposed topic: Ableism)
